A day before full opening, Namma Metro civil works still unfinished
- After years and years of delay, the 'first phase' of the Bengaluru Namma Metro will finally open to the public on June 18
- However, a visit to the ground reveals that there is plenty of work left - approach roads, entry gates and parking lots remain incomplete.
FollowBengaluru's ambitious Namma Metro starts operating fully on June 18, after an inauguration by the President on June 17. But the civil works at the stations are unfinished and need another from six months to a year to be completed. Indeed, some of the station works are also unfinished.
Particularly, the construction of connecting roads and parking lots at the Majestic, Chikkapet and KR Market Metro stations will require a minimum of six months. As things stand now, commuters might be put in a great confusion when approaching the stations.
The main problem is a lack of proper visibility for the parking lots at the stations. Since various civil works are in progress, huge earth movers are stationed outside the stations and have occupied the spaces meant for parking. The approach roads to stations are also incomplete.Â
The JP Nagar station proves the most dangerous in this regard, due to its location. Speeding traffic makes it difficult for commuters to cross the road to reach the station, reports Kannada Prabha.
Civil works are also still in progress in the central Kempegowda Station. Commuters approaching from the KSRTC Bus Stand, Gandhi Nagar or Anand Rao Circle have to take a long, roundabout approach road to reach the station.
The thousands of commuters coming from the KSRTC bus stand especially have to use the single entry gate in front of the Bengaluru railway station. Only two of the six entry gates are ready - Sangollirayanna Railway Station and Chikka Lalbagh side.
The Chikkapet Station civil works also require another one year to complete, engineers at the site told reporters. Temporarily, only one entry gate is being completed at the KR Market side.
