Ministers PA to be Assistant Professor

A strong opposition has been expressed for considering the veterinary doctors on deputation for the posts of assistant professors at the State Veterinary College, reported Kannada Prabha.

The Indian Veterinary Parishat has directed veterinary colleges at Hassan, Shimoga and Bidar for lack of staff in 2013.  Hence 23 veterinary doctors were deputed to these colleges as assistant professors from various colleges in the State.

Among them are relatives of Animal Husbandry Minister A Manju. The Minister is making all efforts to include persons of his choice to be appointed as assistant professors.  The file was put up for debate at the cabinet meeting and decision will be taken in this regard. The previous cabinet had not taken up the file for debate.  Hence in the next meeting the file will be put up and decisions will be taken to appoint the deputed veterinary doctors as assistant professors.

The 23 veterinary doctors deputed as assistant professors must actually return to serving as veterinary doctors. They must not be absorbed as assistant professors as per the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR). Some of the doctors among this 23 have not cleared the NET exams. Absorbing them as assistant professors will be doing injustice to those with doctorates waiting to be appointed as assistant professors.  Hence all posts must be filled by direct appointment and not by absorption , say veterinary graduates.

In fact, the deputed veterinary doctors had filed a writ petition at High Court in 2016 when the  colleges under the Veterinary University tried to appoint assistant professors for thr 168 posts.

The HC had issued a stay order and that is under investigation. Now, again the appointment process has been started and again absorbing deputed veterinary doctors will be an injustice to the veterinary graduates.  Also the SC, ST and backward students who have secured doctorate in veterinary, animal husbandry and fishery will be cheated of their rightful reservation.

Also the government may lose its ICAR grants if the deputed doctors are included among the other aspirants for the post of assistant professors.

However, Minister for Animal Husbandry A Manju said there are no specific information regarding the file coming up for debate at the next legislative assembly.
