Magadi Road underpass will go signal free from July 22

The signal-free underpass at Magadi Road near Karnataka Housing Board colony is ready for launch and Chief Minister will inaugurate it on July 22. The underpass for which the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had laid the foundation stone four years ago was progressing at a snail's pace, testing public patience. The BBMP officials had actually run out of excuses for the delay. Finally, the underpass is ready for use. The sidewalls of the underpass are being painted for the inauguration, reports Kannada Prabha.

The underpass was necessitated due to heavy traffic block at HKB junction after the construction of Sumanahalli flyover. The BBMP commenced the underpass at KHB colony bus stand in 2013 at an estimated budget of Rs 24 crore. It was supposed to be completed in 18 months but took along four years, mainly due to a huge boulder of 140 feet long and 12 feet depth blocking the path. The boulder was cut and removed which took time. Also the BWSSB pipeline and BESCOM ducts had to be shifted. Finally, all works were carried out to satisfaction and the underpass is ready for public use and CM will be inaugurating it on July 22, said Mayor G padmavathi, reports Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, to ease traffic congestion at Silk Board junction, the BBMP has taken up widening the road from Sarjapura Main Road to Ibbaluru Junction a distance of 4.35 km. The project was under dispute for sometime and has been finally cleared. The widening will be undertaken at an estimated budget of Rs 84 crore. The 4-lane path will be widened into six-lane path and the works will commence in August. Apart from two-wheeler lane there will be a designated cycle path, reports Kannada Prabha quoting officials.
