Union Minister Ananth Kumar's statement regarding official flag for Karnataka has not gone down well with the people of the state. The official flag for Karnataka will hamper the integrity of India and the Indian flag, he had told.

But Kannada flag with red and yellow blocks have been the flag representing the region for over a century now. CM Siddaramaiah has even formed a nine-member committee to look into redesigning the flag to make it the official flag of the state.

There is a strong argument that no state (except for Jammu and Kashmir) has a flag. But it is also a fact that no state even has an unofficial flag to represent the entire state. But Karnataka has the Kannada flag why the Yellow and Red colour representing the colour of turmeric and Kumkum, which is considered auspicious.

Usually, voracious speakers, BJP leaders in Karnataka have not been vocal about their support for an official flag to Karnataka. They have even not spoken openly about Hindi imposition in Karnataka. The BJP government in Centre is all set to promote Hindi as the national language and is the members of the party, be it Ananth Kumar or BS Yeddyurappa they have not spoken with an open mind in this regard.

But now, if the party needs the Karnataka vote bank it is a tricky situation. How will the leaders of BJP win the hearts of Kannadigas without supporting Karnataka flag and talking against Hindi imposition is the big question!
