Kannada outfits fix one-day deadline, want Lakshmi Hebbalkar suspended

Lakshmi Hebbalkar apologies Kannada outfits want her suspended Congress defends

The pro-Kannada outfits have given 24 hours deadline to suspend Women’s Congress president Lakshmi Hebbalkar for allegedly making a pro-Maharashtra statement. Congress leaders have however defended her saying BJP has twisted her statement and also she has tendered unconditional apology, hence will not suspend her, reported Kannada Prabha.

Lakshmi Hebbalkar was speaking at a program and allegedly made a pro-Maharashtra statement.  Massive protest were held all over the State and her photographs were burnt. The Kannada Okkuta has warned that if Lakshmi is not suspended within 24 hours massive protests will rock Belagavi.

On Thursday president of Kannada Okkuta Vatal Nagaraj, Dr Rajkumar Abhimanigala sangha president S R Govindu, met KPCC executive president Dinesh Gundurao at the KPCC office and submitted an appeal to suspend Lakshmi Hebbalkar.

Later at Mysuru Bank Circle Lakshmi’s photo was burnt and protest was held. Kannada Rakshana Vedike Praveen Shetty faction held a protest at Anand Rao Circle. Pro Kannada groups held protests at Hubballi, Koppala, Belagavi and other regions.

Meanwhile, Lakshmi Hebbalkar apologised if her statement had hurt anybody and clarified that she has not made any derogatory remarks about Karnataka.  She said her talk at Belagavi Ganeshotsava was picked up in parts and made to sound like derogatory statement.  She said she was addressing the youth to make use of the various developmental schemes implemented by the State Government and become self-sufficient. 

She said the Supreme Court cannot solve the border row and advised the youth not to waste their time about border row but to become self-sufficient utilising the government schemes. She said she has tremendous amount of respect for Karnataka and Kannada.

The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Lakshmi would not have said anything derogatory about State and BJP has twisted her statement.

Dinesh Gundurao said Belagavi is an integral part of Karnataka.  Lakshmi Hebbalkar has said she has not made a mistake, we will inquire into it.

Ramesh Jarkiholi, Belagavi district in charge Minister said Lakshmi will not give such irresponsible statement. If she has given a statement pro-Maharashtra it is wrong but he would look at the video and then comment.
