Bengaluru shootout: Kidnappers fire at police, gang of 5 arrested

Kidnappers of industrialist shot at gang of 5 arrested

A gang engaged in kidnapping rich industrialists for ransom shot at the Byadarahalli police squad, when the police had arrived to arrest them.  In retaliation the police also opened fire and the prime accused Vijay was hit on the leg. Byadarahalli police constable Bhairappa was also hit on his left hand and shoulder, reported Kannada Prabha.

The shoot out occurred at Byadarahalli station limits D Group layout on Thursday evening. The police arrested gang of 5, master mind Vijay alias Venkatesh, his associates Harish, Sharanappa alias Ballary, Vijaykumar and Naveen. Vijay, who was hit by a bullet, is under treatment at a private hospital.

The accused had kidnapped Lakshminarayana Achar of Kamakshipalya and Mohammad Sharif of Magadi Road, both fabricators, and extorted money as ransom. Cases were booked at Byadarahalli police station in this regard.

Mastermind Vijay has over 15 complaints registered against him. He would take his gang and identify rich and businessmen and kidnap them. He would then threaten that somebody had given Supari to kill him and if they paid more than the Supari money he would let them go. The scared persons would give the money. He has kidnapped 18 persons so far and collected over Rs 10 lakhs.

The gang had kidnapped Lakshminarayan earlier and let him go after collecting money from him. On Thursday the gang called him again and said they would reveal the name of the person who had given Supari to kill him if he paid money. Lakhsminarayan pretended to agree to that but immediately informed the police.

Inspector K P Satyanarayana of Bydarahalli station acted immediately and planned to trap the kidnappers. The gang first asked Lakshminarayan to come to Tavare Kere. Later they changed the location and asked him to come to D Group layout near Magadi Road.  The police squad that was following Lakshminarayan in mufti immediately surrounded the culprits asking them to surrender.  But the gang attacked the police in an attempt to escape, injuring constable Bhairappa. Immediately sub inspector Dale Gowda fired in air. Then on self defence inspector Satyanarayana shot at Vijay.  A case has been booked in Madanayakanahalli police station.

Investigations will continue after Vijay si discharged from hospital. Prime accused Vijay is from Tamil Nadu. The rest are from Kamakshi Palya and Rajagopalanagara. Over 15 cases have been registered under this gang.
