Karthik Raj murder solved: Sister arrested along with lover

FollowThe murder mystery of Karthik Raj has ended in a shocking revelation. Claiming to have cracked the case, Mangaluru CCB police have arrested the victim's sister- 25 year old Kavyashree, her 26-year old boyfriend Gautham and his 19-year old younger brother Gaurav.
Karthik, a resident of Sudarshan Nagar was assaulted by unidentified persons near Konaje police station limits when he was jogging around 5.30am on October 22 last year. Based on a complaint by his father Umesh P, a case was registered. Karthik succumbed to the injuries the next day.
BJP and other saffron groups had tried to give it a communal vein and had staged protests when the murder came to light. Moreover, on January 1, the local BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had threatened to burn down the district if the murderers were not arrested.

Following this, a prolonged investigation led to the trio being arrested. According to sources, one of the investigating officers related to the case was a relative of the brother-sister duo.
What had happened?
Karthik had spent a lot of money to get his younger sister married to a well-settled NRI, settled in the UAE. However, just a few years into the marriage, Kavyashree wanted to divorce him because they fought a lot. Although Karthik tried convincing his sister not to break the alliance, she ended up separating from her husband. According to Mangaluru city police commissioner M Chandra Shekhar, the love between Gautham and Kavyashree blossomed when she got a job at the Kanachur hospital. When Karthik came to know about this, he took his sister to task.
Angered at his reaction, Kavyashree hired Gautham to teach him a lesson. Gautham, in turn, saw opportunity of extracting money from her for his house that he was building at Kondana. He demanded Rs 5 lakh from her so that he could hire a person to attack her brother. However, he sought the help of his own brother to do the work. The duo followed Karthik Raj on a motorbike and hit him on the head with an iron rod when he was jogging. Initially, it appeared to be a case of road accident, but later evidences confirmed that it was a case of murder.Â
Meanwhile, on interrogation, Kavyashree said that she had asked Gautham just to attack her brother and not kill him.Â
