Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has declared 45 taluks as flood-hit, said revenue and skills development minister RV Deshpande.

The taluks of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagalur, hassan, Shivamogga and Mysuru districts that faced deluge and downpour are the affected taluks (sub-division).

These districts received incessant rains for two months. Landslide and floods have destroyed crops and properties. Several lives have been lost too. Thus, the state government has submitted a memorandum to the Centre seeking compensation from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The declaration of flood-hit taluks was made based on the estimation of loss caused to the farmers and people.

Privileges

The people of 45 taluks declared as flood-hit areas will get additional window to repay their loans availed from nationalised and scheduled banks. RBI has a rule to provide extra duration to repay the loan in times of flood, drought or any other natural disaster situations.

Additionally, the loans taken on short term basis change to long term loans, the minister said. They will also be allowed to apply for loans again.

A state-level meeting of the bankers was held in Bengaluru recently. A separate meeting of the bankers was held at flood-affected Kodagu district and it was decided to give necessary relief to people as per bank rules.
