  • The authorities have still failed to install CCTVs and depute more security
Kanteerava Stadium shocker Men still prefer using the ladies toilet

On Wednesday, at a sports event for special children affected with neurological disorders organised by SIVUS India, a non-profit organisation working towards the welfare of intellectual disability, there was an unpleasant activity observed. Our Newsable reporter saw the ladies toilet being used by men.

A reality check by team Newsable has revealed that there is an absolute security lapse at the stadium. The security guards who are supposed to keep a watch at various entry points are either missing or seated in the rows watching the events.

In an exclusive footage available with Newsable,  teenage boys with intellectual disability are seen coming out of ladies toilet, and at the same time an adult was seen coming out of the washroom. Newsable questioned him, he said sorry and walked away. Interestingly, the men's toilet, close to the women's washroom is available to be used by the men.

There are no CCTV cameras anywhere, hoodlums and anti-social elements just get inside and keep watching and continue to tease women athletes. Coming to the part on why these men were using the ladies toilet then we had informed you in April how after the incident of men and outsiders entering the women’s toilet a few months back came to light, instead of installing CCTVs in the stadium and deputing extra security personnel, the stadium authority had asked all the male athletes to address nature’s call outside the stadium.

Manager of Kanteerava stadium, Manjunath had then told Newsable "Now, the gents’ toilets in the stadium are locked, and only women are allowed to use the toilet designated for them inside the stadium. For the men, they will have to walk out of the stadium to attend the nature's call. This decision was taken to avoid any controversy.”

Organisers say they have been charged Rs 90,000 by the authorities for permission to conduct the event but are left disappointed as the place lacked basic amenities. "The place was stinking, and there are no proper toilet arrangements. Still, we managed to hold the event," said one of the organisers.

Just a week ago when heavy rains lashed the city, an image of the flooded Kanteerava Stadium went viral. The stadium was flooded with sewage water which the authorities dismissed as minimal damage.

An athlete who regularly practices here says despite complaints of such nuisance, bad things have not stopped and authorities have no concerns.

The event in which 700 special children took part, was inaugurated by sports minister Pramod Madhwaraj. As this event was for special children, the minister was annoyed because the authorities had charged and supposedly he has signed a letter to refund the amount to organisers  It is said that the minister warned the authorities and asked them to speed up the development works pertaining to the stadium.

The stadium was also going to be the venue for the Premier Futsal in September. If the authorities are not able to manage basic facilities of sanitation and security to the users of the stadium then it calls to question the laxity on the part of the officials involved. Money is being charged to conduct such events and yet children, women continue to feel unsafe and harassed.

Earlier, the stadium was in the news as female athletes had complained about peeping toms and anti-social elements frequenting the stadium and disturbing them. Sadly, the authorities who assured action like installation of CCTVs deputing of security guards at all the gates and women guards at ladies toilet are nowhere to be seen.
