Kanakambara flower price shoots up to Rs 2000 per kg

Kanakambara flower Rs 2000 per kg

Kanakambara flower is Rs 2000 per kg, Jasmine is Rs 500 to Rs 1000 per kg, Rose garland at Rs 600 to Rs 1000. The effect of Mahalakshmi festival is evident by the flower rates skyrocketing.  But nothing is stopping the festival enthusiasts and purchasing is in full swing at all markets, reported Kannada Prabha.

At Malleshwara market Jasmine garlands were priced between Rs 300 to Rs 500 depending on the design.  Rose garlands are Rs 600, Rs 700 and Rs 1000. Sevanthi flower is Rs 50 per quarter meter.  Loose Jasmine is sold at Rs 20 to Rs 40 per 100 gms and the traders say it may go up to Rs 100.

Women take Varamahalakshmi festival very seriously and start preparing for it 15 days in advance. Many were seen buying flowers also in advance and preserving it in fridges.  But the last minute shoppers don’t mind paying heavy prices for essentials, that include flowers and fruits.

The rate of tomatoes has come down from Rs 100 to Rs 40.  The coriander leaves and mint, which are in huge demand is sold at Rs 20 to Rs 40 and Rs 20. Amuda of Rajarajeshwari Nagar at the market said “prices of everything has gone up. We buy flowers 3 days in advance and store in fridge. Prices of Jasmine and vegetables have gone up very high.”  She also said betel leaf is sold at Rs 60 to Rs 100 for 60 leaves. The cart vendors who come by daily are also not seen since 2 days she said.

Diwakar, a flower vendor at K R Market said Jasmine is sold at Rs 500 at early morning 6.30. At 11 am it is sold at Rs 300 and in the afternoon price comes down to Rs 200. It may go up in the next two days.  The Salem Molle flower especially used in Lakshmi pooja sells at Rs 300. There is short supply of flowers as even in Tamil Nadu shortage of rains has affected flower harvest.

Rates of flowers at K R Market are Kanakambara Rs 1200 to Rs1400 per KG, Jasmine Rs 200 to Rs 500, Sevanthi Rs 250 to Rs300, Sugandaraja Rs 120 to Rs 140, Rose Rs 200 to Rs250.

The prices of vegetables at K R Market are Apple Rs 120 to Rs 130,  Oranges Rs 100 to Rs 130. Black grapes Rs 60 to Rs 120. Pomegranate Rs 80 to Rs 100. Elakki banana Rs 80 to Rs 120. Pineapple Rs 60 to Rs 80. Sweet Lemon Rs 60 to Rs 80.
