Inter caste marriage: Wife forcibly taken away while police beat up man

An inter caste marriage in Hassan has taken unfortunate turns as just 12 days after the marriage; husband is alleging that his wife was forcibly taken home by her parents, while he was left to face assault by the police.

Guru and Shobha fell in love after three month's friendship and wanted to marry. Guru is an electrician, and the Shobha was pursuing her final year BA degree in one of the colleges in Hassan.

Shobha spoke about her love to her mother, following which Guru visited her house, spoke to her mother and tried to convince that he can take good care of her and they will be happy together.

But her family was not ready for an intercaste marriage and turned down his proposal. But Shobha was in love with Guru and had decided to marry him anyway. She asked Guru to meet her on July 27 and eloped with him on that day. Both with the help of Guru's friends and parents got married at a temple. Then the couple went to Bengaluru and lived there for a couple of days. Then, they came back to Hassan and registered their wedding.

After getting the wedding certificate, Guru posted his photo with the wife on Facebook. The next day, he got a call from the police station who asked him to write a statement referring Shobha's parents and asked him to get the documents of the marriage.

As said, the couple went to the police station. But to their shock, even before they entered the station, Shobha was pulled away from Guru, and he was thrown in a lockup. Her family asked her to throw away the toe ring and mangal sutra; else they threatened to hurt Guru.

Guru has alleged that they forcibly took her away and he was beaten up in the station. Now, he has come before the media stating that he wants his wife back.

However, so far there is no response from the girl or her family.
