Intelligence team from Bangladesh arrives at Belagavi to investigate Bangla infiltrators

Intelligence team from Bangladesh arrives at Belagavi to investigate Bangla infiltrators

A team of intelligence officers from Bangladesh Consulate has arrived in Belagavi to investigate into the case of infiltration by 12 Bangla citizens into India.

A month and a half ago, the Belagavi police had arrested 12 Bangladeshi citizens who had infiltrated into India and were working in meat processing units in Auto Nagara, Belagavi.  All of them had managed to procure Aadhaar Cards, Rationa Cards and fake Passports. They are all housed in Hindalga Jail.

The team from Bangladesh led by senior officers from the office of the Consulate Musharraf Hussain and Ravi Sharma went to Hindalga Jail and interrogated the arrested.  Along with the Bangladesh officials, Karnataka’s Central Intelligence Department officials and Belagavi Rural ACP Gurushantappa and inspector Narayanaswamy were also present.

Belagavi Police Commissioner T G Krishna Bhat had written to the Union Foreign Affairs Ministry about the Bangladeshi citizens infiltrating into India and working at the meat processing unit in Belagavi. The Union Government had in turn written to the Bangladesh Consulate informing of the situation.  The Bangladesh team arrived at Hindalga Jail and interrogated the arrested to ascertain if they are indeed Bangladeshi citizens.

Earlier to this, a group of Bangladeshi citizens were arrested in Vijayapura and housed in Central Jail, Dargah, Vijayapura.  The team visited them also and collected information.

The Belagavi police had arrested 12 Bangladeshi citizens in a chance interrogation of a person going to Dubai from Pune. One Mohammad Al Jameena Bepari (26) was attempting to travel to Dubai on May 2 from Pune. The airport officials, who inspected his passport, suspected foul play when he was unable to understand Marathi or Kannada but could speak only Hindi. Finally he submitted his original passport issued in Bangladesh. He had changed his name to Mohammad Mamu Sheik and registered his residence as Auto Nagar Belagavi.  The Pune police handed him to Malmaruti Police at Belagavi.

Following information extracted from him, the Belagavi police arrested 12 infiltrators from Bangladesh working in Belagavi.

The DVP, Belagavi Amaranatha Reddy said the team arrived from Bangladesh and met the accused in Hindalga jail. However he denied having any other information in this regard.
