Inquiry ordered into Alvas student Kavyas suicide case

The suicide of national-level sportsperson Kavyasree (16), a student of Alva’s Education Institutions at Moodbidri, at her college hostel has taken a turn putting forth various disputing opinions. In the light of Kavyasree’s parents making serious allegations about the way the incident has been handled by the institution, counter allegations are also made in public adding to the confusion, reports Kannada Prabha.

Taking into considerations the serious nature of allegations, Mangaluru Police Commissioner TR Suresh has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Kavyasree, SSLC student at Alva’s high school had committed suicide by hanging at her hostel room on July 20. Her body was shifted to the mortuary even before her parents came to see her. The parents were not allowed to even see her body. Her father Lokesh, resident of Kateel Ekkaaru Devaragudda accused that something was fishy by the way the institution hushed up the incident. He lodged a complaint with Mangaluru Police Commissioner requesting an inquiry.

Kavyasree’s mother Baby said “I need an answer why my daughter committed suicide. Why did the college authorities remove her body and shifted to mortuary even before we could come? I need an answer for that. How can a 14-year-old girl commit suicide?” Also several progressive organisations started protesting about the incident and demanded inquiry. Hence the Police Commissioner has ordered for an inquiry.

Dr Mohan Alva, President of Alva’s Education Institution has said that the institution is being targeted and they are ready for any inquiry. There has never been a”murder” at their institution before and with regard to Kavyasree’s suicide they are ready for inquiry by police, media or any individual.
