Total 28 constituencies in BBMP to have Indira Canteens at a cost of Rs 7 crore per constituency Branded oil and food items to be procured, as per Food safety Act 2006. Health inspection must once in 6 months. Around 300 people to be served, by-two service will also be offered and there will be two different menus in a day.

The BBMP has called tenders to serve food at the Indira Canteens, for all 28 constituencies at Rs 7 crore per constituency. Tenders are called on June 17 and after all processing, eligible contractors will be offered contracts on July 19. Conditions have been stipulated in the tenders with regard to food safety. All food items and oil should stick to provisions given in the Food Safety Act 2006. Branded items should be procured. Once in every six months Food Inspectors will inspect the canteen. Canteens should provide food for 300 persons at a time. BBMP has the power to either increase or decrease the number. Failing to supply extra will attract fine, reports Kannada Prabha.

Indira Canteens will serve breakfast between 7.30 am and 10 am. Lunch between 12.30 pm and 3 pm and dinner between 7.30 pm and 9 pm. Two menu must be offered at all three times on all the seven days. Customers must be given the choice. By-two service or half plate service should also be offered.

On the menu is

Monday - breakfast 3 idly (150gm), 100 gm chutney / Puliyogare (300 gm), Pudina Chutney (75 gm). Both items should be kept ready 50 per cent. If the customers ask for half of each as one plate it must be offered. Idli and coconut chutney must on all 6 days.

As a second choice on Tuesday - Kharabat (200 gm), Wednesday Pongal (225 gm), Thursday Rava Khichdi (200 gm), Friday Chitranna (225 gm), Saturday Vangi Bhat (225 gm), Sunday Kharabhat (150gm) and Kesari bhat (75gm). Pudina chutney, coconut chutney, tomato gojju, coriander chutney should be given alternating each day.

Lunch and dinner:

Two menus must be ready daily. If the customer wants half of each, it must be offered. So, the lunch menu for lunch and dinner consists of - Monday to Sunday for lunch and dinner, first choice rice (300 gm), vegetable sambar (150 gm), curd rice (100gm), and chutney. As second choice Monday Tomato bhaat ( 300gm), curd rice (100gm), Tuesday Kia Sasuve chitranna (300gm), curd rice (100gm), Wednesday Vangi Bhaat(300gm), Curd rice (100gm), Thursday Bisibele bhath (300gm), curd rice(100gm), Friday Menthya Pulao (300gm), curd rice (100gm), Saturday Puliyogare (300gm), curd rice (100 gm), Sunday Darshini Pulao (300gm) and curd rice (100gm).
