Improve government health centres than clipping wings of private hospitals

Karnataka state government’s new rule brought the doctors of private hospitals to the street as thousands of doctors staged a protest in Bengaluru alone against fixing fees for medical procedures.

The private and government doctors staged a protest against the State Government’s proposal to amend the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act 2007 empowers the government to regulate private hospitals and fix fees for medical procedures.

Of course, if the hi-tech facilities and treatments are available for common people at a feasible price, it is surely good news. Ideally fixing an amount by the government on medical procedures looks like

But one should understand that the private hospitals give hi-tech facilities, and they have a high maintenance expense too. All this apart, day in and day out various kinds of complaints are being heard about the poor plight of government hospitals in the state.

Be it the virus in Bidar hospital, no stretcher at Shivamogga’s McGann Hospital or dragging a patient at Victoria Hospital. To add to this, women made to sleep on the floor after vasectomy at a Nelamangala Taluk Hospital, are an example to the plight of government hospitals.

However, though under various schemes, new machinery for detecting diseases, lab tests are brought. But it is heard that many types of machinery are not used as there is a lack of experts to operate them.

First and foremost, the government should take proper measures to pay the doctors of government hospital well. Keep the hospital clean so that there is no infection. Have proper beds and machinery to conduct all the tests in the hospital at an affordable price.

The government should improve the conditions of the hospitals run by it. Instead of clipping the wings of private hospitals, the state should make government hospitals hi-tech. However, it is also better to have a check on the private hospitals. But when government hospitals give quality treatment, people will start visiting government hospitals more.

Then private hospitals will bring down their fees even without any rules!
