If your house does not have Rainwater harvesting facility and the water is gushing outside without any source of percolating it, be ready to pay 50 per cent additional amount of your water bill, every month.
The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is all set to slap a huge fine on the owners of the house which lack rainwater harvesting unit. The process is in place already, and the BWSSB has collected a fine of Rs 7.69 crore from the defaulters. However, now with the onset of monsoon, the process of slapping fine will be more rigorous.
According to rules, it is compulsory to install rainwater harvesting unit at every house in the metro city. This rule was made compulsory in 2009. But people living in the silicon city are still not serious about installing it.
Thus, the BWSSB has made it a point to collect fines from those who do not follow this rule. Currently, 50 percent additional money is charged on the water bill for defaulters. But for those who have not installed it even after warning them repeatedly, BWSSB is planning stern action.
Currently, if the water bill is Rs 200, people who have not installed the rainwater harvesting facility are charged an additional amount of Rs 50 in the water bill.
The BWSSB is on a campaign to create awareness about the importance of rainwater harvesting. It is also training the plumbers to install the rainwater harvesting units or facilities.
