I stand by what I said let there be an enquiry says DIG Roopa

DIG Roopa, who exposed the loopholes in the Departments of Prison by filing a report with the Anti-Corruption Bureau and Karnataka Chief Secretary on drugs and special treatment to convicts for money, has received a shot in the arm.

Former police officer and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry has expressed her solidarity with Roopa for taking on the system.

Roopa, who spoke to Asianet Newsable, said she would stand by her report on illegality in the prisons department. She also retweeted Kiran Bedi's support for her in this connection.

There were rumours that Satyanarayana Rao, being a senior police officer, had apparently passed negative remarks on Roopa during the initial stages of her career, and now she was getting revenge.

However, Roopa denied this, saying this theory is far from the truth and said she never worked before with HS Sathyanarayana Rao in the past and had no personal grudge.

"The gravity of the issue will be reduced if such theories are given importance. The facts and other details related to prisons have been given to higher officials, and I have made everything clear in that report,"  she said.

Now that her complaint has caused ripples across the nation, she said she had earned more enemies by this report.

Though, it is true that Roopa has been singled out. The state government has sent her a memo seeking her explanation about why she broke protocol and approached media instead of solving issues within the department itself.

For which the officer said she never went to the press and only has given the report to concerned officers. "Let there be an inquiry in this case," she said.
