I can never forget the freedom he gave me when I served as the deputy Chief Minister in his Cabinet. Dharam Singh’s childlike smile and loving sight are now only a memory. He started over five decades ago, went on to become one of Congress Party’s strong leaders. His charisma and personality was such that even leaders of Opposition respected him.
I can never forget the freedom he gave me when I served as the deputy Chief Minister in his Cabinet. Dharam Singh, the fountain of love, is no more. We are drowned in sorrow. I am pained and saddened that now Dharam Singh’s childlike smile and loving sight are now only a memory. He had no enemies.

Dharma Singh had contested 7 times from Jevargi Constituency. He was elected once from Gulbarga and once from Bidar to Lok Sabha. He had served in the Cabinets of D Devaraj Urs, R Gundu Rao, S Bangarappa, M Veerappa Moily and S M Krishna. There are no portfolios that he did not handle. Excise, Home, Social Welfare, Urban Development, Revenue and PWD and many other portfolios he headed very efficiently.
When he adorned the Chief Minister’s chair he was known as a popular CM. Dharam Singh entered the public field as an independent candidate as a corporator in Gulbarga five and half decades ago and went on to become one of Congress Party’s strong leaders.
The friendship between Dharam Singh and Congress leader at Parliament M Mallikarjuna Kharge was not only well known in State but also in national political circles. He was loved and trusted by all in Congress from grassroot level workers to top leaders. His charisma and personality was such that even leaders of Opposition respected him. Dharam Singh loved everyone from children to seniors. May his soul rest in peace.
