Honour killing in Mysuru How a missing complaint by lover boy exposed parents brutality

A missing complaint of a 19-year-old girl by her dalit boyfriend revealed his worst fears - that she could have been killed by her own parents.

As it turns out, the parents allegedly confessed to the police that they killed her as she was in love with dalit boy Krishna - the complainant. Shobha's father Guru Siddanagowda (45) and mother Mahadevamma (40) were picked up from Ooty where they were hiding after allegedly killing their daughter, for the past three months.

Shobha's parents hail from Dadadahalli near Saraguru in the taluk. However, the family had shifted to Parvathipura where Shobha met Krishna. They both were in love but Shobha's parents did not approve of her choice as Krishna belonged to a lower caste. Shobha was sent to Motta village as they could not keep her away from Krishna. But, the couple kept in touch over the phone, it is said.

Three months ago, Shobha had come to her native to attend death anniversary of a relative. She met Krishna here again and the couple allegedly planned to elope. However, her parents who got the wind of it caught them red-handed while they were eloping, reports Kannada Prabha.

The couple were badly beaten up by Shobha's parents, brother Kiran and uncles. While Krishna managed escaped, Shobha was taken back home, reports Kannada Prabha.

In his complaint, Krishna had stated that since that incident, he never heard from Shobha. "I was told that her father had told everyone in the village that he burnt her to death. This forced him to file a missing complaint," Krishna stated in her complaint.

Soon, the police swung into action. Based on a tip-off, the police - on Sunday - arrested the couple from Ooty, where they were hiding for the past three months. It is said that the couple have confessed to have killed her and later burnt her body on the outskirts of a village in Dadadahalli.

"The parents are now in judicial custody. We suspect that the role of Shobha's brother Kiran, uncles Mahesh and Ramegowda in assisting the parents. We are on the look out for them," SP Ravi D Channanavar told Kannada Prabha.
