As a youth from Manipur was shown lying in the hospital, people assumed that it could be a racial attack. 32-year-old S Paukhanmung from Manipur is a staffer at Empire Hotel at Jayanagar III Block in Bengaluru, and this is really what had happened.

Paukhanmung has sustained multiple injuries, his leg has been fractured, and he has been admitted to Hosmat hospital.

Paukhanmung was allegedly attacked by the Empire staffers for smoking a cigarette on the terrace of the hotel. Some reports said that he was smoking a cigarette in the staff room which led to a fight. But according to Rini Ralte, Manipuri Association Chief who spoke on behalf of the victim, it is a racial attack.

However, his friend, who is a staff in the Empire says that it was an office matter and was about paying fine for smoking cigarette. He said that it was not a racial attack.

This is what happened:

Paukhanmung was asked to pay a fine of  Rs 100 for smoking. But he did not pay, and when he came to the hotel the next day to report for work, the alleged three staffers assaulted him for not paying the fine, he said.

The incident was spread across through WhatsApp group, and within a matter of short time people came in to take Paukhanmung to hospital.
