Has Siddaramaiah visited any dalits house since became CM asks Yeddyurappa

Brushing aside the criticisms of him visiting dalits houses, BJP State president BS Yeddyurappa asked what moral right does Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have to criticise when he has not visited any dalit's house in the last four years. "In the last one-and-half-month, I have visited 40 dalits houses, listened to their problems and shared their food. Has Siddaramaiah visited any dalit's house since he became chief minister," asked Yeddyurappa, according to a report in Kannada Prabha.

As part of the Statewide Janasampark Abhiyan campaign, BJP State president BS Yeddyurappa has been visiting dalits home to break bread with them. However, his efforts have invited more criticism after he and his party colleagues were allegedly found to be eating food allegedly brought from hotel. Yeddyurappa who received much backlash had tried to clarify himself that since there were more people with him, the house members had to order food from outside. But it did not help him, at all. In order to silence his critics, he again visited another dalit's family and had a food prepared by the family in Bagalkot.

But the opposition parties came down heavily on Yeddyurappa stating that visiting dalits' house was just a poll gimmick. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had even stated that having food at dalits' houses was not enough to show that BJP was pro-dalit. Instead, they should marry their daughters, if they were so keen to better the lives of dalit families.

"Siddaramaiah claims to be an Ahinda leader but has he made any attempt to understand dalits' problems, at least once? He cannot cheat people (dalits) as they understand his hidden agenda. His concern for dalits is only for the vote bank and people will teach him a befitting lesson in the next polls," Yeddyurappa told a gathering after being felicitated by Dalit Sangharsh Samiti Ambedkar Dhvani during the birth anniversaries of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Dr Babu Jag Jeevan Ram here in Bengaluru, reports Kannada Prabha.

"Congress leaders are jealous of my visits to dalits houses and so they are criticising. But this will not stop me from visiting their houses. I will continue to visit their house and share their food," reports Kannada Prabha quoting Yeddyurappa.
