Governor rejects the governments recommendation for Bengaluru VC

With the Governor Vajubhai Vala rejecting and sending back the State Government’s file recommending Sangameshwar Patil, Registrar, Krishnadevaraya University, Bellary to be the VC for Bengaluru University and suggesting his preference of K R Venugopal, UVCE Principal, a deadlock has occurred with regard to appointing the new VC for Bengaluru University.

However, the State Government has decided to re-recommend the same name and resend the file.

A Search Committee constituted to recommend candidates for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Bengaluru University had sent three names: UVCE principal K R Venugopal, , registrar at Krishnadevaraya University Bellary Sangameshwar patil and Mysore University professor Nagabhushan. Of the three the State government had selected and recommended the name of Sangameshwara patil.

The Governor has taken objection to the recommendation and instead made his own suggestion of K R Venugopal. The State Government has not agreed for K R Venugopal and has decided to re recommend Patil.

Until this deadlock is resolved it is going to be wait and watch for Bengaluru University for some more time, which is going with a VC for the past 5 months after Prof Timme Gowda completed his tenure.

It can be recalled that the High Court had issued a stay for the appointment of new VC for Bengaluru University following a write petition and after the petitioner withdrew the petition, the case was squashed and the State government had made its recommendation.
