It is reported that Arun Monteiro's mother Aida Thomas, a native of Kasargod was a Hindu Brahmin. However, she reportedly converted to Christianity after her marriage, 40 years ago. However, the family was reportedly not happy being Catholics and they continue to visit temples in their region.

Three months ago, Arun had reportedly contacted the local Hindu Jagaran Vedike and expressed his family's wish to convert to Hinduism. When the Vedike members approached the seer with Arun's request, the seer reportedly told them to wait for some time. "The situation was not conducive for their conversion in the region. However, the family insisted that they wanted to come to back to Hinduism," reports Udayavani quoting a Vedike member

"It was not a forced conversion as Arun Monteiro and family members wished to convert on their own will," clarified Seer Rajashekharananda of Vajradehi mutt, reports Udayavani. Arun Monteiro has changed his name as Arun Poojari, wife Sunitha is now Sangeetha. His mother is Gouri Pujarthi and sons - Ajay and Anish Poojary.

This is not the first time that a 'Ghar Wapsi' incident was reported from Karnataka. Last year too, a Christian family had turned Hindus in the presence of Hindu organisations in Konaje near Mangaluru. Of late, more Christian families in Mangaluru are coming back to Hindu religion.
