Geetha murder case: Five of Dandupalya gang get life sentence

The special court today (November 9) sentenced five members of the infamous Dandupalya gang to life and had slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each.

Justice Shivanagowda was hearing the case of the murder of Geetha in 2000 November in Bengaluru. The murder was reported in the Kamakshipalya Police Station. Accordingly, Doddahanuma, Nallathimma, Munikrishna, Venkatesha and Lakshmi has been awarded life sentence in the case.

The above-mentioned convicts are accused in at least 35 murder cases.

In some other cases, the High Court had earlier ordered the lower court to conduct a retrial of a case against 5 members of Dandupalya gang with regard to double murder and dacoity in Mangaluru, reported Kannada Prabha.

The Special Court at Parappana Agrahara had sentenced 5 members to death in 2012 for the murders of an old woman Lucia De'Mello and Ranjith Vegas at Urva Manigudi in Mangaluru on 1997 October 12.

The bench headed by justice Ravi Malimutt and justice John Michael D'Cunha heard the appeal filed by Dodda Hanuma, Venkatesh, Munikrishna, Nallatimma and Krishna questioning the sentence. The judges had said that there were several lapses in the statements of accused and witnesses. Hence they ordered a retrial and announced an appropriate sentence.
