Gauri killing not by Naxals RSS maligning alleges Varavara Rao

“None of the Naxal outfits, including Maoist factions, have not killed journalist Gauri Lankesh. Naxals had consensus with several agitations that Gauri Lankesh had undertaken, as she raised her voice in support of the oppressed. Such a person was not killed by Naxals” said senior Communist leader and social activist Pendyala Varavara Rao.  He strongly condemned portraying that one group of Naxals were a part of the killing for bringing Naxals into mainstream, reported Kannada Prabha.

Talking to Kannada Prabha for a phone interview Varavara Rao said RSS has always been active in painting black the Communist ideologies and even now they are spreading such rumours. They are blaming Naxal without any reason, he said.

He categorically stated that RSS hand is involved in Gauri’s killing and Naxals strongly condemn that.  Who is rejoicing Gauri’s killing? Only killers rejoice not comrades. Killers are blaming someone else for the killing, he alleged.

Guari Lankesh raised her voice in support of the oppressed. From Baba Budangiri to Lingayat agitation Naxals had consensus with Gauri’s  agitations. But Gauri herself was never a Naxal. Not even a Maoist. She had never killed anybody nor joined hands with any killers. Her ideologies were secularism, democracy and pro-oppressed. As a journalist and as an activist she was doing her work. It is really unfortunate that she was killed, he said.

In the Naxal movement in Karnataka some had gone out of the Maoist agitation. Responding to government’s move to get them back into mainstream, Gauri had attempted to convince some Naxals. If at all there has to be ideological differences then the displeasure would be against those who had left the movement and not against Gauri.  It is impossible that Naxals or Maoist hated Gauri.  The spokesperson of Maoist Organisation Central Committee Abhay has already issued an official statement regarding this, he said.

Varavara rao also said that he had worked closely with Gauri Lankesh in Coimbatore Ntaional Park agitation, Bengaluru-Mysuru Express Highway agitation, agitation against globalisation. She was a very democratic thinking woman and raised her voice against injustice. But just because of that one does not become a Naxal.  Killing for dissent will not construct a civil society, he analysed.
