Farmers to get Global Gap certification to export mango directly

Farmers to get Global Gap to export Mango directly

The State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation has initiated procuring Global Gap certification for farmers to directly export Mangoes superseding middlemen.

Speaking at a press meet on Thursday, the Corporation Chairman L Gopalakrishna said the Good Agricultural Practices certification, shortly called Global Gap, is essential for farmers to directly export. The corporation is taking the initiative to get this certification to farmers. The certification issued by Germany provides opportunity for farmers to enter global market directly, naturally getting better prices, he said, reports Kannada Prabha.

There are 9,987 registered members at the corporation who exported a total 6,294.85 tonne Mangoes till March end. The expected export till June end was to the tune of 10,000 tonne. The corporation is planning to implement several schemes for the current year for the betterment of mango growers and the Global Gap certification is one among them. In the year 2017, 'Mango Melas' at various parts of the State attracted a total sale of 2,793.30 tonne mangoes, with a turnover of Rs 8.64 crore, said L Gopalakrishna.
