Farmers destroy crops due to water scarcity

  • Farmers at Ranebennur, Yelaburgi are destroying crops due to shortage of rain.
  • Sugarcane and green gram crops were destroyed. 
  • They had sown the crops hoping for monsoon rains and water from Kumudvathi River.
  • The monsoon was inadequate and Kumudvathi River has gone dry. 
Farmers destroy crops due to shortage of rain

The distressed farmers at Ranebennur and Yelaburgi are destroying the sugarcane and green gram crops due to shortage of rain, reported Kannada Prabha.  On Sunday Hanumanthappa Angadi of Hole Anveri village in Yelaburgi taluk destroyed sugarcane crops in 3 acres, Chandrappa Dyamannanavar destroyed in 2.5 acres and Sangamesha Chigari destroyed in 2 acres.

They had sown the crops 4 months ago hoping for monsoon rains and water from Kumudvathi River.  Neither the monsoon was adequate nor water flown in Kumudvathi River. Hence they destroyed the crops using tractors.

In Ranebennur Sankanur village Kallanagowda Police Patil destroyed green gram in 14 acres of field. He had sown the crop at an expense of Rs 30,000. Several other farmers also destroyed green gram crop in their fields.
