Dharam Singh Death: Schools and colleges to remain shut on Friday at Kalburgi and Bidar

Dharam Singh Death Schools and colleges to remain shut on Friday at Kalburgi and Bidar

On the backdrop of former Karnataka CM N Dharam Singh's demise, the state government had declared half day leave to education institutions across Karnataka on Thursday and has said the school and colleges in Kalburgi and Bidar would remain closed on Friday too.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. On his return from Haveri to Bengaluru CM said, following the death of former CM Dharam Singh, there will be a three-day state mourning, and all government programmes stand cancelled.

Echoing the same, Education Minister Tanveer Sait said, Dharam Singh leader from Kalburgi was once an MP representing Bidar and hence educational institutions in Bidar district will also have a holiday on Friday.

"I am blessed to have worked with former CM in 2004. I was given Labour and Haj portfolio then, and he meant only business and no waste of time. He spoke to me yesterday evening and asked that many works at North Karnataka have to done about education. It is a habit of Dharam Singh to call the ministers regularly to check the progress of work," said Sait.

The former CM's body will be taken to his home district Kalburgi in a special charted flight today evening, and his last rites will be performed there on Friday.
