As the Karnataka government is planning its Cabinet expansion to fill six vacancies, sources in Congress say that Roopa Shashidhar, daughter of former Union minister and Kolar MP, KH Muniyappa is a likely candidate to bag the Cabinet berth in the Kumaraswamy government.

Roopa Shashidhar, former director of DCC bank of Kolar, has helped people get loans. This effort of hers translated into votes and she won the KGF (Kolar Gold Fields) assembly seat. And now her father is said to have made efforts to get her a ministerial berth.

Muniyappa shares a close rapport with Congress leaders in Delhi. Being the tallest leader hailing from the Scheduled Caste (SC) from southern Karnataka, sources say his influence will work in getting his daughter a ministerial berth.

"The government at present has only one woman in the Cabinet as a minister. Since the government is also planning to include another woman, Roopa Sashidhar's name is being recommended.  Muniyappa is an influential leader and he will ensure his daughter gets the chance,"  a source said.

When Asianet Newsable contacted Roopa Shashidhar for her reaction, she denied having any knowledge about her name doing the rounds but said, whatever the party decides, she will agree.

"After Karnataka was formed breaking away from the original Mysuru state, Congress has won the KGF assembly seat for the first time. I have created history. My father is definitely a big political leader and I need his blessings too. I am not an aspirant for the minister's post. It is left to the party to decide on that," she stressed.

Slamming the dynasty politics of Congress and JD(S_, which formed the government, BJP spokesperson S Parkash said that both the parties cannot do away with family politics and one should be surprised if Muniyappa's daughter is included in the Cabinet.

Senior Congress leaders and JD(S) leaders refused to comment on the issue.
