Challenging Star Darshan to join Congress?

Even as actor Upendra is getting ready to launch his own political Party, Congress is making all efforts to get glamorous film actors in its kitty and the first name that it has picked is Challenging Star (as he is called) Darshan.  Both star turned politician Amabareesh and KPCC president Dr Parameshwar are in the forefront to woo him. A preliminary round of talk has already been held with the High Command to get Darshan to join Congress, it is said, reported Kannada Prabha.

If everything goes as per plan, Darshan may join Congress, but he will not contest 2018 legislative elections. Instead it is being said that he may contest for Lok Sabha.

The possibilities are high of Darshan contesting from Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency against the current MP, State BJP Yuva Morcha president Pratap Simha.

Congress had well identified the trend of popular film personalities attracted to politics and had even foreseen the Opposition BJP making efforts to take advantage of the trend. Hence it has made its first move of talking to actors. However, the Party is not interested in senior, faded actors but want current heart throbs and Darshan is the first choice.

Darshan’s mother Meena has identified herself with Congress for a long time. She was an active member of the Party. Later she was the president of Mysuru district Women’s Congress. Meena also has close contacts with the State and national Congress leaders. 

Using this the Congress leaders had tried earlier to get Darshan to the Party.  But he had not shown much interest in politics. His political interest ended at campaigning for close associates during election. Earlier he had campaigned for Ambareesh, his good friend. During Lok sabha elections he had campaigned for P C Mohan of BJP.  So he had not shown any particular affiliation to one Party.

Now, both Dr Parameshwar and Amabreesh have taken it upon themselves to get Darshan to join Congress. Though Darshan has not given consent he has not refused to both joining the Party and contesting Lok Sabha elections sources say.

As per the plans of Congress leaders Darshan should join the Party much before the legislative assembly elections and he should be used for campaign. Later during Lok Sabha elections he can be given ticket to contest from Mysuru-Kodagu constituency opposite to current MP BJP’s Pratap Simha.  Interestingly, two more strong contestants are also making attempts in this constituency.

One is former chief minister DEvaraj Urs’s grandson and AICC secretary Suraj Hegde and another is AICC spokesperson and current member of the committee arguing for Cauvery water Brijesh Kalappa. Suraj Hegde is close to Rahul Gandhi and is already AICC secretary. He is also the incharge for national Yuva Congress. His father Nagaraj, Devaraj Urs’s son in law is an influential leader in Mysuru region. He is a strong contestant for Mysuru-Kodagu constituency.  Brijesh Kalappa, AICC spokesperson, is keen to contest from this constituency.

According to survey, Darshan has highest fan following in the Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency and his chances of winning are very high. It is now wait and watch what decision Darshan takes in this regard. The Congress sources say it may not be a long wait.
