Congress conventions to start from Oct 21

The State Congress is making preparations in full swing for the forthcoming elections and has planned two separate conventions, one by the party and the other by the State Government, to woo people, reports Kannada Prabha.

The Congress party will propagate the achievements of the State government and the State government is planning to approach the people asking for the ‘coolie’ (reward) for implementing the various projects successfully for them. The conventions are planned in every district.

A decision was taken at the meeting of the senior Congress leaders with Rahul Gandhi. The first convention is planned at Mangaluru on Oct 21.  All the conventions are going to be well-planned and well-executed, it is reported.

Sources said that at the meeting with Rahul Gandhi, many leaders expressed their disappointment at the appointment of office-bearers. Many felt their supporters were not being given prominence. Hence some more appointments have been approved.

The Congress high command has approved the proposal to change party district unit presidents, including the appointments to various Corporations and Boards. The current Congress district presidents pre-occupied with their corporation and board responsibilities were not engaging themselves in party activities. Such district presidents and those who have not performed well in organising workers will be removed, it is reported.

Chief Minister said tickets for aspirants will be allotted according to social justice. All categories, including youth, will be given equal prominence. "We will not talk like BJP claiming Mission – 150. In the previous elections we had won 121 seats. This time we will win more. We do not want BJP’s groupism. We are not dependent on them. We are capable of coming to power based on our strength and achievements. There is no doubt about it," Siddaramaiah said.

On the same occasion, he clarified that there is no confusion with regard to separate religion status by Lingayat Veerashaiva. Veerashaiva Mahasabha president Shamanuru Shivashankarappa appealed for separate Veerashaiva-Linagyat religion. Mathe Mahadevi appealed for Lingayat religion. Virakta Mutt also demanded the same. He asked all the three of them to come together. The government has not taken any stand and there is no confusion, he clarified.
