CM claps for Hebbet Ramakka a film on reservation for women

More number of films on social issues will not only create awareness among the public but also bring in social change said the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, reported Kannada Prabha.

He was speaking after launching a film ‘Hebbet Ramakka ‘ by sounding the clap board. The film is being directed by Nanjunde Gowda.  The CM said film is a powerful media and along with entertainment, it should also throw light on social issues.  It will not only create awareness among public but also find solutions to social problems, he said.

The CM recalled his friendship with director Nanjunde Gowda, which he said made him accept the invitation to clap for the film.  He said he came to know that the film is about reservation only after arriving there.

Terming the story relevant, he said whether Ramakka is a good pro-people representative or anti-people, will be unveiled only when the film releases. However he expressed his confidence that it will be a success.

The 50 per cent reservation for women in Panchayat Raj is a major revolutionary development.  Even an uneducated woman can become a Panchayat member.  The only requisite to be a representative of people is to be honest and pro-people, he said. Answering a query by media persons he called B S Yeddyurappa inviting dalits home as a political gimmick.

Film stars Tara and Devaraj were present along with Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president S R Govindu and others.
