Home Minister says "We know who killed Gauri" but CM says "We are clueless"

CM and Home Minister give different statements about Gauri Killing investigation

Contrary to Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy's repeated statements that that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has found certain clues on killers of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh and even going on to say that "We know who did it," Chief Minister Siddaramaiah simply said that the government is making sincere efforts to find the killers, reports Kannada Prabha.

Speaking at the Suvarna Soudha on Monday, Chief Minister said the killing of Gauri Lankesh is an inhumane act and the State Government is making sincere efforts to find the killers. He however did not reveal at what stage the investigation was at present.

'Gauri Lankesh’s killing has created a sense of fear in the society. The killers will be found and punished. Also the killers of Dr MM Kalaburagi will be found," he said. Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar said though Gauri Lankesh was propagating an ideology different from his, she was engaged in pro-people activism and responding to people’s issues. Lankesh Patrike had played a major role in shaping the thoughts of a generation. Gauri Lankesh also ran the paper based on ideology. The State government has not made any breakthrough in identifying the killers. Home Minister says clues have been found but it looks like efforts are on to fix someone in this. The people are curious to know who the killer is. The investigation must be completed at the earliest, he said.

JD(S) leader YSV Dutta said the killing of Gauri Lankesh is an example of attack on freedom of expression. He also urged the government to find the killers of Guari Lankesh and Dr MM Kalaburagi.

MLA KS Puttannaiah also paid condolences to Gauri Lankesh and said in the war between killers and thinkers, thinker Gauri has been killed. Killers are gaining an upper hand in the country. Gauri’s killers must be found at the earliest, he said.
