Karnataka: Cloud seeding gets brisk, rain expected

Cloud seeding gets brisk rain expected

The cloud seeding program entered its sixth day and the past three attempts have resulted in rain at several parts of the State. The cloud seeding carried out on Sunday is expected to result in rain in Kolar and Kanakapura, reported Kannada Prabha.

The State Government will undertake cloud seeding for another 25 days and from coming Friday it will target north Karnataka.  The evaluation of the cloud seeding and its resulting rain is already undertaken.  On Sunday cloud seeding was done successfully at Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara districts and the probability of rains is very high said the officials.

The RDPR Department started cloud seeding from Aug 23.  The GKVK Campus at Bengaluru was the centre and cloud seeding was done at south and central Karnataka. On Aug 23 cloud seeding was done at Mandya, Magadi, Nelamanagala nd other regions that resulted in some amount of rain.  Later cloud seeding was taken up on Aug 24 at some areas of Hasana, Chikkamagaluru and Tipaturu, resulting in rains. The next day Ramanagara and Tumakuru districts received good rains.  Of the 6 days of cloud seeding only 3 days provided good results.

On Sunday cloud seeding was taken up in Kolar, Malavalli and Kanakapura and it is expected to rain in these regions, said the officials. On Saturday Bengaluru and other regions of the State received good rains. North Karnataka received moderate rains.

Dakshina Kannada received good rains the entire Sunday.  All streams, rivers and tanks in the district are in spate. On National Highway number 66 in Uchchila, Talapadi, the low bridge on the highway is flooded and traffic is disrupted.  An auto rickshaw was caught in the floods and it had to be rescued.  In Udupi incessant rains lashed.

In north Karnataka Sirasi and Kumata received good rains. Kodagu received moderate rains.  In Mundaragi taluk in Gadag half an hour of moderate rain was received. Dharawad, Bellary, Mandya, Koppala, Yadagiri, Belagavi light rain was recorded. Raichuru received good rains and the wall of a house in Siya Talab collapsed.

The inflow into KRS recorded 11,313 cusecs as against 5651 cusecs previous year.
