BS Yeddyurappa denotified land after receiving 27 applications

Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa issued orders to denotify 257 Acres and 20.5 Gunta at Dr Shivarama Karantha Layout during his tenure after receiving 27 applications. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has brought to the notice of the High Court that the Chief Secretary had submitted a report stating that BDA officials had exempted the land from acquisition which is illegal and action should be taken against the officials concerned, reported Kannada Prabha.

The single judge bench headed by Justice Aravinda Kumar heard the argument with regard to two applications submitted by B S Yeddyurappa appealing to cancel the 2 FIRs filed by ACB in connection with Karanth Layout denotification.  Prof Ravi Verma Kumar argued on behalf of ACB.

Following the orders issued by B S Yeddyurappa, the then chief minister, the BDA officials had exempted acquiring the 257 acres and 20.5 gunta out of the total 3340 acres for setting up Dr Karanth Layout. Since the order came from the chief minister some land owners were given a reply and exempted from acquisition.

When D V Sadananda Gowda was the chief minister, he had issued orders to CID to inquire into this misappropriation but FIR was not filed. The subsequent CM had handed over the case to be investigated by the chief secretary and not handed over to CID.
