Bengaluru boy once best student is now a highway robber

Life has taken a turn for the worse for a bright young PU student after he turned to robbery and mugging just to impress the girl he loves.

Savan Vigneshappa a.k.a Bablu was declared the best student by his college after first-year PU and also scored 86% the next year. However, everything went downhill after he fell in love with a girl in his degree college.

The girl wanted him to buy a sports bike, indulge in drag races and do wheelies to impress her. Bablu who was not from a well-to-do family began mingling with anti-social elements to find a way to make a quick buck.

As per a report by the Times of India, Bablu and his associates would make Monisha, a 20-year-old girl from Begur, to lure drivers on deserted stretches of the highways and the Nice Peripheral Road. "Assuming she was alone, the drivers would stop and approach her. Monisha would take them to a distant place where Bablu and the others would pounce on the drivers and snatch their valuables," police said to TOI.

Initially, police caught one of his associates who then spilt the beans on the gang’s modus operandi. Police picked up Bablu and 12 of his associates earlier this week. About 450gm gold, mobile phones and other valuables worth over Rs 15 lakh were recovered. With this, the police claim to have solved 25 cases of mugging and robbery.
