BBMP to focus on these areas for smart city plan

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is ready to submit a proposal under the Central government’s smart city initiative. The civic body has a number of plans for the city, and the soon-to-be submitted proposal covers 17 wards located in the central business district (CBD) of Bengaluru.

The 17 wards are in Shivajinagar, Malleswaram, Gandhinagar, and Chamarajpet.

The proposed plan includes bicycle ride around the Ulsoor Lake, that will be revived, bike sharing network, app-enabled car parking system in Shivajinagar, installing digital information boards for travellers, restoring historic markets, charging points for electric vehicles and so on and so forth, reported a leading national daily.

Depending on the development plan the Central government will be allotting funds to execute the proposal. In an earlier attempt, BBMP proposed Mahadevapura as smart city zone. However, this time CBD has been selected because it has been seen that most approvals have been received by the plans that focus on redevelopment of business districts, the TOI quoted BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad as saying.

The latest proposal is likely to cost around ₹1,728 crore and also covers 25 roads in the CBD under TenderSure model, the commissioner added.
