BBMP agrees not to dump waste at Mitaganahalli quarry, partial victory to public protest

BBMP agrees not to dump waste at Mitaganahalli quarry partial victory to public protest

The people of Mitaganahalli, Bellahalli and Kannur went on a lightning strike on Wednesday forcing BBMP to stop dumping garbage at the Mitaganahalli quarry.  The villagers had given them a time period to make alternate arrangement and to stop dumping waste at the quarry. However BBMP had continued to dump waste even after the time.  On Thursday the villagers went on a protest and BBMP had to assure them from Friday they would stop dumping, reported Kannada Prabha.

BBMP Commissioner Manjunatha Prasad, local MLA Aravinda Limbavali and people’s representatives from various villages visited the spot and discussed and assured that waste will not be dumped in Mitaganahalli quarry any more. However nothing was said about dumping waste at nearby Bellahalli quarry. A decision will be taken after discussing with local MLA and Minister Krishna Byregowda, it was decided.

The 4 acre quarry in which waste has been dumped till now will be converted into park assured BBMP Commissioner Manjunatah Prasad.  He was accompanied by Solid Waste Management Division joint commissioner Sarfraz Khan, taluk panchayat president nkappa, Kannur village gram panchayat president Bhaktapal, Doddagubbi panchayat president Maruthi Kumar and others.
