It is said that the fight began after Rathnakar Shetty of Hindu Jagaran Vedike and Khaleel (a resident of Kalladka) argued over a silly issue. The situation went out of control when the duo were joined by their supporters who pelted stones at each other vandalising nearby business establishments. Many vehicles and passersby have also been hurt in the incident. In the melee, Shetty and Khaleel attacked each other with knife and have sustained injuries.

The police rushed to the spot after being alerted and had a tough time control the mob as the warring members pelted stones on police too. Rakshit Gowda, Bantwal rural sub-inspector has been grievously injured due to stone pelting. He has been rushed to the hospital, it is said.

In fact, it is said that despite the prohibitory orders in place (imposed earlier), the two groups attacked each other, reports Kannada Prabha. The two groups have now lodged a complaint with the Bantwal police.
