Attempts to hush up poly house scam

The scam exposing the role of officials of Agriculture Department in the Poly House Project was made public by Suvarna News 'Cover Story' and 15 days' time was given to submit a report to the government but even after two months, it is not submitted, reports Kannada Prabha.

The State government had issued orders to investigate into poly house scam and submit a report within 15 days. Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda had agreed to it at the Cabinet session. To investigate into the misappropriation, two teams were set up to report on Mandya and Tumakuru districts. However, even after two months, the reports are not submitted. It is also rumoured that the investigating officers are also negligent in carrying out their duties thus giving rise to suspicion that officials are cooperating to brush aside the allegations.

Kannada Prabha and Suvarna News Cover Story teams had jointly conducted an operation to expose the misappropriation of funds in 116 polyhouses in Mandya and 256 poly houses in Tumakuru. This was debated at the legislative assembly also. Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda had accepted misappropriation and had promised that action would be taken after investigations. Two six-member teams were set up with one team headed by Nandini Kumari, Agriculture Director, and another headed by Shivakumar, Horticulture Director. Nandini Kumari said that visits to polyhouses have been completed. All information will be consolidated and a report will be submitted soon. Roopa Devi, joint director, Agriculture Department Tumakuru said the investigations are under progress.
