Congress Party in Karnataka is in full swing, preparing for the coming elections. It was earlier criticised for not having a Home Minister when the Southern part of Karnataka (Kalladka, Mangalore, Bantwal) faced violence. Looks like soon the official announcement of the Home Minister will be made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The post of Home Minister is vacant since July 16, the day G Parameshwara stepped down from the seat as he was chosen as the Party President and was asked to strengthen the party and concentrate on preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.

It was said that even though senior leaders were approached to be the Home Ministers, no one had come forward to take the offer. Now, the reports in TV 9 have said that Forest Minister and district In-charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada, Ramanath Rai is likely to be given the Home Minister's post.

Sources said that Rai is being given the responsibility to send out a clear message to the right-wing supporters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts that the government has not scared of them and can handle the violence situations.

It is also said that the Congress High Command has given its nod to the state's selection of Home Minister and the official announcement will be made in a day's time.

Kempaiah, the officer at the Home Ministry, is said to be the reason behind senior leaders not accepting the offer to be the Minister. He is said to be close to CM Siddaramaiah and an influential officer.

Now, though there were a hue and cry during the violence in Mangaluru and situation looked like it was going out of hands, Rai did manage the scene and took some stern action to maintain law and order.

In addition, the seat of MLC vacated by the untimely death of Vimala Gowda is likely to be given to Congress leader CM Ibrahim. HM Revanna is likely to get the Forest Department.

So, if there are no more hindrances, soon Ramanath Rai will be sworn in as the Home Minister.
