Army Colonel booked for usurping Rs 500 crore worth DRDO land in Bengaluru

The Central Burearu of Investigation has registered an FIR against Lt Colnel and others for allegedly selling Rs 500 crore worth land belonging to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The accused is identified as Lt Col Thimmaiah and other unidentified DRDO officials who allegedly conspired with him in selling the land .

Following a complaint by the Defence Ministry's Director (Vigilance) Atul Kumar Singh on September 8, 2016 the CBI had registered the case. The central investigation agency conducted searches at seven places including the residential and official premises of accused in Karnataka and Telangana. The team has recovered important documents during their searches, it is said.

It is alleged that Lt Col Thimmaiah who was then Estate Manager with DRDO had allegedly conspired with other officials of the agency and transferred over 12 acres of land to Rustumji, a resident of Bengaluru, reports Kannada Prabha. Thimmaiah and other officials abused their official position, says the FIR. They have been booked under sections of cheating and criminal conspiracy of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.
