Angry techies hold up trains again protesting against delay

A large number of train commuters held up trains for over two hours at Kasturi Nagar on Monday. They were protesting against halting of the Yeshwanthpura to Hosur train everyday to allow other trains to pass. This train facilitates techies who travel to Sarjapura Road, Whitefield and Electronic City from various parts of the city. Daily around 8000 commuters use this train. But the train is delayed by half-an-hour, everyday, inconveniencing the office-goers. On Monday, as the train was halted, angry commuters got down from the train and held a protest blocking all other trains passing, reports Kannada Prabha.

Ramamurthy Nagar Railway Police immediately arrived on the spot and tried to convince the protesters but to no avail. The protesters stayed put demanding that railway officials should arrive and promise them that there would be no more delays. Finally, DSP Ramakrishna took some of the commuters who led the protest to railway senior officials and the protest was called off. The trains that had stopped at 7.53 am finally left at 9.50 am.

It can be recalled that some days ago, commuters had staged a protest at Karmela Ram Station for daily delay. The railway authorities should have taken note of the public rage and acted but they showed a laid back attitude. Hence, the commuters registered their protest again on Monday.

Says Nandan, a regular commuter on the train, thousands depend on this train to travel to work. But running it late has caused great inconvenience to public. IT employee Suhas Narayan says train bus should be introduced during peak hour to reduce traffic congestion. Doubling of the Byappanahalli - Banaswadi-Hosur lines should be taken up on priority. Super fast trains should stop at Carmel Ram Nagar. Urban Planning expert Sanjeev Dyamannavar said the Yeshwanthpur and Hosur train is a boon to thousands of techies. Hence, it is important that it travels on time. Banasawadi-Byappanahalli tracks have to be extended and Bellandur crossing signal has to be automated.
