Alva's Kavya death: Murder says mother, BJP leaders bat for the Institute

With questions still unanswered about the death of 15-year-old Badminton champion Kavya at Alva's High School in Mangaluru, the mother has alleged that it is murder. However, the members of BJP who were silent till now have at last spoken and have come out in support of Mohan Alva, the owner of the institute where the girl was found hanging.

Kavya was a Badminton champion and was admitted to the Alva's School on the advice of Praveen, physical education teacher in the school. Previously Kavya was studying at a school in Kateel. Just some days over a month of joining the school, the girl was found hanging from the fan inside her hostel room.

There are many questions which have gone unanswered and leave many doubts in the mind. Here are five facts that indicate that it might not be a suicide case.

1) Saree

Firstly, Kavya was found hanging from the fan in her hostel room from a saree. The school authorities have told that the saree belonged to the mother of one of the hostel mates. But why would anyone leave their saree in the daughter's hostel, when no student wears saree in the school. How did Kavya get hold of the saree?

2) Track suit

The CCTV camera footages and photos show that Kavya has attended practice in the ground in a track suit in the morning. Then she changed to colour dress, as she was not given uniform from the school, (a pink salwar) and returned to her hostel. But when she was found dead, she was again in the track suit and not salwar.

3) No CCTV footage after death

Though the CCTV camera footage of Kavya attending the practice, classes and returning have been released, there are no footages of her body being taken out from the hostel.

4) Why was her body taken out of the noose?

There was no chance that Kavya was alive and still her body was removed from the noose and was taken to the hospital. The parents were intimated only after the body was kept in the mortuary.

5) Why was her body in the mortuary and could see only her face?

The parents came to the spot within one hour of intimating them about the tragedy. By then, the body was moved to the mortuary without the parent's  permission, and they were not allowed to see the body but were shown only her face.

6) Practice at 4.30 am?

There are other doubts too; Kavya had spoken to her parents just a day before she was found hanging. She spoke without any hints of committing suicide. In fact, she was heard inviting parents for the outing and asking them to get chocolates for her. In the conversation, she was heard saying that she was called for the practice at 4.30 am. But the college authorities have clarified that no activity of the school starts at 4.30 am, and sports practice starts only after 6 am. Thus the question if Kavya was called for the practice at 4.30 and if it true who called her and why remains unanswered.

Kavya's mother has demanded that the physical education teacher should be questioned and there should be a fair probe.

However, the BJP leader Capt Ganesh Karnik said: "We condemn the attempt to slander Dr Mohan Alva's reputation and urge the police to speed up the investigation and bring out the truth." It can be noted that BJP leaders from Shobha Karandlaje, BS Yeddyurappa, Nalin Kumar Kateel and others staged protests and gave speeches against the death of Sowjanya, RSS  worker Sharath's death.
