Shravan Singh is an expert tiles worker and was engaged by the temple to lay tiles at the temple since two years. He was always thinking of stealing the expensive jewelry on the deity.  He called his friend Haraji Ram from Rajasthan to come to the City.  After he arrived, Shravan Singh took him to the temple and showed him around and he told Shravan to get a duplicate key made. As per his friend’s suggestion, Shravan Singh stole the key and got a duplicate made, after waiting for one month.

Harji Ram them invited some more of their friends to City, from Rajasthan. On April 16 at around 2 AM the gang entered the temple and using the duplicate key took away all the jewels and escaped to Rajasthan.  Shravan Singh continued to work as if he was innocent. The gang attempted to sell the jewels to friends in Mumbai, informed Central Division DCP Dr Harsha Gupta.

Shravan Singh was interrogated along with other staff in the temple by the police but he managed to keep silent. Some days back he was found standing at the BDA Complex near Viveknagar and was talking suspiciously with a person. A constable heard him and brought him to the station and questioned him. During interrogation he did not spill the beans.

The police came to know of the plan only when they confiscated his phone and investigated all calls, which pointed to talks related to the theft.

Of the arrested, Bharat Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Jitendar and Ishwar Lal were the same gang that had entered a jewelry shop M G Golds in Moti Market at Balotra, Rajasthan, threatened the staff and looted the shop.  They were also jailed in that case.
