Indira Canteens aims at hunger-free- Bengaluru offering tiffin at Rs 5, lunch at Rs 10. Contract given to Café of Krishnagiri to construct 200 kitchens at Rs 28 lakh each. 200 canteens start service from August 15.
The State Government aims at hunger- free-Bengaluru by launching 200 Indira Canteens at its 28 constituencies. The Café of Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, has bagged the tender for the constructions of 199 canteens at 28 constituencies in the City.
The project costing Rs 100 crores will be launched on Aug 15. Each Indira kitchen will be built on 24 sq ft and the canteen will stand on 12 to 14 sq ft, built using prefabricated concrete floor, ceiling and walls. Each canteen’s construction will cost Rs 28 lakh, said Mayor G Padmavathi.
At a meeting held at BBMP, on Friday, officials from all 198 wards were present. The sites for construction of canteens were finalised for each ward. BWSSB has been intimated to organise water availability for all the Indira Canteens. The Mayor is expected to visit The Café at Krishnagiri for inspection.
It was proposed to construct a Indira Canteen in front of the Corporation but after strong protest, it was decided to construct it behind the Central office of the BBMP. One Indira Canteen will come up at K R Market.
The State government’s ambitious project will start serving tiffin at Rs 5 and lunch at Rs 10 from August 15.
