A Bengali soldier lost his life in an accident in Jammu. The incident has cast a shadow over Independence Day celebrations in Nalhati of Birbhum. Relatives are waiting for the body of the soldier to return to the village.

The name of the deceased soldier is Srikrishna Mandal. He belonged to Kalitha village in Nalhati. Due to financial crisis, he left his studies during the second year of his college. He studied in the science department at Rampurhat College.

Krishna got a job in the Indian Army in 2012. He joined as an electrical technician in Jammu. His family members said that he went home for the last time during Saraswati Puja this year (2020).

A couple of months ago, he got leave but could not manage to come to his village due to the lockdown. According to reports, the body of the deceased soldier will return to his village in a coffin on Saturday (August 15).

It is learned that Krishna was electrocuted while working on Wednesday night and died on the spot. The family members received the news from one of his colleagues on Friday (August 14).

The incident has shocked all the people of his village. Ramakrishna Mandal, grandfather of the deceased, said, “Army people will come to the village on Saturday with the body. I am waiting for his coffin to come.” A couple of months ago, Srikanth was ordered to be transferred to Delhi. But due to the lockdown, he could not manage to go to a new place and join work.
