West Bengal: CPM leader Jibesh Sarkar demands permanent solution on Gorkhaland issue before polls
CPI(M) district secretary Jibesh Sarkar demanded a permanent solution on the Gorkhaland issue before the polls. He wanted to make sure that the people of the hills are not deceived for votes in the name of Gorkhaland. The Union Home Ministry has sent a letter to the state seeking discussion on the Gorkhaland issue.
Siliguri: To make sure the people of the hills are not deceived for votes in the name of Gorkhaland, CPI(M) district secretary Jibesh Sarkar demanded a permanent solution on the issue before the polls. The statement was made by the leader while addressing the media at Siliguri’s CPI(M) party office on October 5.
The Union Home Ministry has sent a letter to the state seeking a discussion on the Gorkhaland issue. The Home Secretary, GTA Secretary, District Magistrate of Darjeeling and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Principal Secretary has been invited to the meeting. A letter has also been sent to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha‘s Singamari party office on behalf of the Union Home Ministry.

In this context, Jibesh Sarkar stated that a permanent solution should be provided to the troubled hills. He stated that a meeting should be held along with the representatives of all the political parties in the hills.
Before the 2021 Assembly Election, the Gorkhaland issue came to the fore again. Raju Bista was elected to the Lok Sabha from Darjeeling, West Bengal in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Under his leadership, the demand for a new Gorkhaland became stronger. In this situation, the opposition has accused the BJP of conspiring to divide Bengal. The Darjeeling district CPM has stated that a permanent solution should be provided to the hills.
