The house owner has told police that the couple was upset that their marriage wasn’t accepted by their families. The deceased couple was identified as Raju Mondal and Rinki Mondal. Police are verifying the address of the couple.

The incident was reported from the Becharam Chatterjee Road near Behala Chowrasta around 12 noon. Ratan Chakraborty, the 75-year-old, who owns the house where the incident took place, told police that the couple had moved in barely 48 hours ago.

A police officer said, “On Tuesday (November 3) noon, Parnasree police went to the spot, when Ratan Chakraborty told them that the couple had not come out despite repeated knocks by their maid who had brought them breakfast. When the couple did not come out, the landlord and others peeped in through a small crack in the window and found both hanging. Their neighbors then broke open the gate, which was locked from inside and found that the couple was hanging from the roof with sarees and informed local police.”
