UP: Girl takes life over harassment, where is the anti-romeo squad?

  • College-going women hanged self as no action was taken against the boy who harassed her
  • Instead, the police filed a FIR against the girl’s uncle
  • Fearing further harassment, the girl committed suicide
UP Squad formed against Romeos but 23 year old girl takes life over harassment

The college-going girl felt dejected as instead of taking action on the accused, the police had filed an FIR against her uncle. With no hope of getting justice, the girl hanged herself at her house at Pipri Police Station limits at Kaushambi in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

According to the latest report, the four police personnel have been suspended. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has now ordered a probe in this regard. “We have ordered an inquiry into the incident. We will see to it that justice is done,” he has told reporters.

The girl had complained to her uncle about the youth who was harassing her and had gone to the college. Her uncle is said to have gone to the youth’s house, where he was sitting with his friends, and there was heated argument both the side.

Following this, victim’s uncle filed a case with the police in this regard. But the uncle and the girl had the shock of their life when on Friday, a FIR has filed against the girl’s uncle himself that he had beaten up the boys. But no action was taken against the boy.

Fearing further harassment, the girl took the extreme step.

Thus, more than controlling the Romeos, there is need to look into issues and address the concern of women who are really in fear and distress.
